A fairytail getaway

Lake Bled is a picture-perfect lake of iconic beauty. It lies at the foothills of the Julian Alps in the north western corner of Slovenia.

The colour of the water is mesmerizing! You can easily walk around the lake following a lovely flat path. It’s truly like walking in a  fairytail.

It takes between one, and one and half hours to walk around the lake, which is a little over  2 kilometers in length  and a little less than 1,5 km in width, with a mximum depth of 30 mt.

In the middle of the lake there is a charming little tear-shaped island, the only natural island in Slovenia. You can reach it either by swimming, renting a row boat or by taking a traditional wooden boat, called Pletna

In conclusion, to get a panoramic view of the lake you have to visit Bled Castle, a medieval castle built on a cliff overlooking the lake and the city of Bled.

Ljubjana: a daily walk around one of Europe’s greenest capital cities

Ljubljana

Ljubljana is the capital and largest city of Slovenia; it’s also happens to be one of Europe’s greenest and most liveable capital cities.

The city centre

Car traffic is restricted in the centre, leaving the leafy banks of the emerald-green Ljubljanica River, which flows through the city’s heart, free for pedestrians and cyclists.

In summer, cafes set up terrace seating along the river; it almost feels like a night street party.

The Castle

The city’s most striking sight sits up high on the castle hill.

There are wonderful views of Ljubljana and the surrounding area from the tower of the medieval castle.

The ancient rooms house various exhibitions that tell the exciting history of the castle.

There is a funicular railway up the castle hill, but it is also an easy walk.

The symbol of the city is the Ljubljana Dragon.

The Dragon

The first impression a visitor gets of Ljubljana is that it is an exceptionally young city. It is home to over 50,000 students, who give it a special vibe.

In short: Ljubljana is a city that people often return to, and with a name that is believed to mean beloved, how  could you  do otherwise?
